It's been so long since we've heard anything new regarding the Dodge Hornet concept (http://www.autoblog.com/2006/03/01/geneva-motor-show-dodge-hornet-concept-world-premiere/) from way back in 2006 that you could be forgiven for assuming it was dead on arrival. Not so, according (http://www.autonews.com/article/20080611/COPY01/931859748/1197) to Thomas Hausch, ChryCo's veep for international purchasing, who says that the automaker is hard at work developing its Hornet model. Not that it's particularly shocking that Chrysler would be doing everything in its power to bring more small cars to market, considering that sales in that segment are so strong in the face of $4 per gallon gasoline.

It has long been assumed that the tie-up (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/24/chrysler-and-chery-resume-discussions-hornet-confirmed/) with Chinese automaker Chery would yield the first Chrysler compact, but remember that Chrysler recently made a deal (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/14/breaking-chrysler-and-nissan-announce-major-supply-agreements/) with Nissan. In that arrangement, Nissan would get a version of the Dodge Ram in exchange for a Nissan-built small designed and developed by Chrysler. So perhaps the Hornet will actually come from Nissan. Whatever the case, the American automaker is in desperate need of a good compact vehicle as quickly as possible. [Via: Autoblog.com]

I think they could possibly make a good run in the compact market the cooper has only declined in hype as well as the scions are now losing ground with the xb's new body

It looks as though Kia has taken a few styling queues from the Hornet with their Kia Soul, only difference is they will be out as an '09. Come on Chrysler get on the ball.

Agreed. There is no way the interior will look like that in production.

On the outside, I like the overall look. But the front end has too much of the Japanese cheesy-plastic look to it.

How's that, most are fully adjustable? In fact, the seats of my Ridgeline are more comfortilbe than my Chargers.

I'd rather have them get the car right. Chrysler can't afford to release another crap vehicle. They need to release good quality vehicles one after another with no mistakes at all. So far they're doing that with the new RAM, Challenger, Journey, redesigned Jeep Patriot/Compass, etc.

ya, casue its a truck, most car seats are bad for my back, the caliber/vibe/etc are the only ones that i seem to sit in for extended periods of time, as i'm able to sit in them with my knees bent like a chair, whereas most cars i have to have my knees not bent when im sitting in them.

"Chrysler President Tom LaSorda has said the auto maker is about halfway through selling off $1 billion in noncore assets to raise cash. The Viper business was one of the strategic ideas that had been identified as a possible noncore asset sale, company spokesman Stuart Schorr said Wednesday.

Mr. LaSorda is also overseeing new partnerships to speed the introduction of new cars. Chrysler executives are slated to visit Nissan Motor Corp.'s studios next month to approve the design for a small car that Nissan will build for Chrysler, which the auto maker will sell in the U.S. starting in 2010."

So Cerberus is going to sell off the Viper brand. I wonder if these idiots will decide that the SRT division is a non-core asset too.
