If you had final design decisions, what would you change about the looks of the Dodge Hornet?

Myself, I'm pretty satisfied with the looks. I think I'd spend most of my time on the engine/performance aspect of it. I think it looks great as is...

color match the side skirts. it would give it the look and appeal of a "lower" car... at least maybe if they release a sport version

I like to change back what Chrysler already changed about the production Hornet.

The production version will have 16" wheel standard, and sit 2" higher.

So I would change back to the concept form.

Then again, Chrysler have been true to concept with the Challenger. So maybe we have nothing to fear.

I agree.. the Challenger was not a perfect match to the concept, but it was close enough that it made me happy. If they can pull that off again I think they will have a lot of happy campers...

The Hornet concept is a great looking car. I especially like the aggressive front fascia. That's what makes it stand out from the XB and Element crowd.

So if you're listening Chrysler / Nissan, don't change a thing!

Since I am a big Mopar fan, I woulf like to be able to get rid of my Aveo and get a good looking inexpensive gas-saving Mopar as my daily driver.

I'm curious to see... Looking back at the performance aspect of the NSRT and what was given up... If the interior will be the same for an SRT version as the other models.

Well you would hope the SRT version has a few interior accents and better seats to really make it stand out. I would be open to that and also lightweight considerations in many areas of the car for the SRT4/ACR version.

If Nissan is going to build it, why would we think there would be a "Chrysler" engine in them? Nissan got a perfectly good 1.8L and 6spd manual that already mate together. If more power (200hp) is needed, there is the QR25DE motor used in the Sentra SE-R Spec V that also already hook up to a 6spd and paddle CVT.

The relationship is Chrysler-Nissan (Renault). Not Chrysler-Mitsubishi-Nissan (Renault). Too many bed partners there.

Didn't Dodge do that with the stealth? They had a couple of models DOHC/Turbo motors that went into the Stealth which were Mitsu sourced... but the base model had a Chrysler motor in it?

Nope. There was nothing "Chrysler" about the Dodge Stealth. It's all Mitsubishi 3000GT. This based engine was offered in just about every Chrysler models.

Oh yah! Well the mirrors on the Dodge Stealth are the same mirrors on the Dodge Viper ;) So thats at least 1 part thats all Dodge :)

I'm not so sure it needs AWD. This is supposed to be an economy car in the end, not some 5 sec mini-sports car with launch control. AWD would make it slow and kill gas milage.

Yeah that is true, This thing is not ment to be a skyline. Just a well balance economy car.

ok if they think about a srt model... how the hell would awd make it slow unless your planning on goin like 160 mph every day. you will not notice that much of a diff and you will hook 10 times better then you would with fwd... plus some people live in areas that they like having the awd just in case:B4: i win you lose:laugh:

Yes, an SRT model might be neat (and I'd look at buying one), but Dodge doesn't need to make an SRT model out of the vehicle they produce. In this day in age, I think they would be focusing more on fuel economy, interior quality, reliability, etc, and not performance. An AWD model would make it weigh more, give it less MPG, etc. Plus it just adds to the problems that may occur, taking away the reliability part. Make this a simple car for people with simple needs with a decent interior (no hard plastic!!!) and it will do fine.

I have no need for AWD here in Cali. Having a SC or a turbo just means another thing that could go wrong. a strip down model is what I am looking for.

Again...I'm not sure what engine/HP numbers you're thinking about. This car will never push 300 at the wheels. I would vote for less than 200 at the wheels, even with a turbo. I never stated that AWD makes a car less dependable. I just said they should put their focuses on dependability among lots of other things rather than a performance version. This car is meant to be an economy car first. This is Chrysler's major issue right now and its seriously biting them in the arse. All they have are performance vehicles and big trucks/SUV's. They have a grand total of 2 or 3 cars that have a sticker EPA est of 30 MPG. Thats not all that great if you ask me.

If they were to change it, I would think they'd revert to the Dodge Omni nameplate. Hornet sounds pretty cool though.

The Razor was a cool name too...

The mirrors are ugly
The vented areas along the bottom of the door is not attractive
The handles are bulky,
And the hood scoop looks out of place on the concept model. It would look better with a mini CSRT or NSRT hood.

As far as performance is concerned It would be cool to see a 2.4 Turbo model, and seeing as a Nissan is involved a CVT option would be nice too.

Overall the car looks good though. The back is very nice, and the whole car looks pissed off -which is a bonus IMO.


Glad Dodge is steering away from the "Catfish" look from the 00-05 models, but now everything looks more bulky than needed. kinda transformerish. Not sure what i think about that yet, but I am sure it will grow on me in time.

I doubt you'll see RWD, even if they made an SRT version it will be FWD (and NO NOT AWD EITHER!).

They told the car makers that they don't like lift style handles and small handles because it damages their nails, and voila, everybody is putting HUGE pull type handles on their cars and trucks. Some are getting so big a hockey player could get in without taking off his gloves.

If the Hornet is built on the Nissan platform it is the same as the Clio, so I say, build a Hornet SRT6. 2 seater, mid engine, RWD. It would need more rear flare and side vents but I don't see where that would look bad.
