: Regular or Synthetic oil

I was just wondering what type of oil you guys used for your car. For the most part, I just use regular old dino oil because it's less expensive.
Another reason is because I change my oil around every 3k miles, so it really don't matter. I know many out there still chose to use synthetic. Why?

Full synthetic in my Charger. Regular in my Jeep and my wife's buick.

The full synth offers better protection against breakdown. With the mods pushing the engine a bit farther than stock, I figure its best to switch. and I still change it at 3k miles.

I noticed that Mobil 1 just came out with a 0-20. The label says that it can be use instead of 5-20, for better gas milage. What do you guys think?

That 0-20 would be OK for summer time.

Cold weather is not really a big concern here in Cali. We rarely get below 28 degrees here in the winter, but the summer we get over 110.

I don't know what I was thinking... the 0-20 oil is thinner, which is better for cold temperatures.

For hotter temperatures (100°+), the zero part is OK, but you probably want a 0-30 or 5-30 weight.

I was wondering about that too.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil in my Caliber R/T. Currently I have 0w40 installed for the winter. I change my oil around every 6-7k miles.
