: E85/Regular Gas?

I've talked to quite a few friends lately who have been using E85 where their car supports it... its much cheaper at the pump, but you also get worse gas mileage with it. How much of using E85 is a mental/environmental thing as opposed to a true "alternative" to traditional gasoline?

Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

E85 for high performance cars FTW! equilivent to 110 octane (i believe)

I believe Ethanol burns "cooler" then regular gas, but also generates less "power" per unit then traditional gasoline... ie. it takes more to produce the same HP.

ya... which explains the lower gas milage... octane equilivant of 100-105 FTW THO! race cars arent supposed to get good milage lol

Shouldn't E85 be a lot cheaper? If gas has gone up 50% in the last year, E85 should only be subject to 7.5% increase. E85 is only 15% gasoline. Someone is making some $$$ here.

Don't hold me on the math, you get my point.
